'Shiatsu is like the mother hugging her baby': Shizuto Masunaga, Founder of Zen Shiatsu

Shiatsu/acupressure massage is a gentle, restorative, massage form from Japan, with origins in traditional Chinese Medicine and massage techniques of the region, alongside those which developed in Japan specifically to accompany acupuncture.

Its development in connection to Daoism and Zen Buddhism gives it strong roots in connecting the individual with the natural environment.

'It begins with pressure with the fingers but it is difficult to say why pressing the point cures disease. In both Zen and Shiatsu we are dealing with something that cannot be explained rationally but that should be felt by the living body.' Shizuto Masunaga

Shiatsu is intended to support the healing process and not to replace standard healthcare. If you have any health concerns , acute or chronic, please also consult your GP.
